Preheat the oven to 180 °C (350 °F). Ask a grown-up to cut the apples in half (horizontally) and to remove the core with a melon baller. While your assistant is working, get out a bowl and mix the maple sugar, butter and salt in it until you get a soft spread. Place 4 cored apple halves in a buttered oven-proof dish, drop a little spread in the holes, pour the maple syrup over them, then cover with the apple tops and bake for about 35 minutes. Let them stand for a few minutes to cool after you take them out of the oven. Serve with a scoop of ice cream. After all, an apple a day...
